Nice Carnival

The Nice Carnival is one of the world's primary carnival events, along with the Brazilian Carnival, Venetian Carnival, and Mardi Gras in New Orleans. It is held yearly in February and occasionally early March (relying at the movable date of Carnival withinside the Christian calendar) in Nice at the French Riviera. The earliest facts set up its lifestyles in 1294 whilst the Count of Provence, Charles Anjou, wrote that he had passed "the joyous days of carnival". This may also make the Nice Carnival the unique carnival celebration.

In 1873, a committee was created for the Carnival, headed through neighborhood artist Alexis Mossa, with later contributions from his son Gustav-Adolf Mossa. The Carnival became reinvented right into a parade, including masquerades, satirical floats, and competitions. Today, the two-week occasion draws over 1,000,000 site visitors to Nice each year. Each year, a unique subject matter is chosen, and artists create 18 floats and different collectible figurines in conventional paper-mâché for the colorful parade. The parades take place day and night, at the same time as at the Promenade des Anglais, "flower battles" occur.
