Peace Lilies (Spathiphyllum)
Peace lilies are an excellent addition to any room for cleaning the air and instilling a sense of harmony. According to Feng Shui, peace lilies help to bring good luck and fortune. Its graceful large green leaves and brilliant white flowers contribute to the creation of a pleasant atmosphere in any room. Peace lilies are sometimes referred to as a "good luck plant for purifying the air."
Not only Feng Shui practitioners believe peace lilies are an air-purifying plant. According to a NASA study from 1989, peace lilies are among the plants that help purify the air. The study discovered that clean-air plants like peace lilies help remove formaldehyde and benzene from the air.
Although they have the word 'lily' in their name, they are not true lilies from the Liliaceae family. Peace lilies are a flowering leafy plant genus in the Araceae family. Lilies are distinguished by their large dark green leaves and pure white flowers. Their leaves can grow to be as long as 25" (65 cm) and as wide as 10" (25 cm). These are contrasted with white flowers with a single petal that can range in length from 4" to 12" (10 - 30 cm).
Peace lilies can be planted anywhere there is a need to improve air quality. These are especially useful in offices or on workstations.
