At Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding in 2011, the hat was the focus of royal fashion. Princess Beatrice came in a light-colored creation dubbed a "turkey twizzler” or "lavatory seat”. According to the BBC, a Facebook page dedicated to the iconic hat was formed, and an auction raised $80,000 for UNICEF and Children in Crisis. The princess was taken aback by the overwhelming response and described herself as "amazed" by the amount of attention the item received.

The hat was the catalyst for a thousand memes. Some called it the ‘pretzel hat’, its creator Philip Tracey called it a ‘bow’, but others had less favorable names for Princess Beatrice's memorable headwear at the royal wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge back in 2011. This “pretzel hat” hasn't ruined the Irish-born milliner's reputation, however, he despises the present fascinator craze.
