Playa Amarillo
From every aspect, this southwest beach - Playa Amarillo - is stunning. Thanks to the efforts of local residents who struggle to keep the beach open and free of developers, it is absolutely devoid of any infrastructure. Playa Amarillo now provides free public access to anyone – and the locals want to preserve it that way. Therefore, the beach is nestled away, with little development and a forlorn atmosphere. The accessibility to numerous neighboring quality breaks–camps and schools offer daily boat rides and tours–is an advantage to this location. There are a few stores that sell basic items and a few restaurants that serve both local and international food. It is best to bring in supplies. Lessons and rentals are available at surf camps, schools, and stores.
The yellowish sand is quite lovely, and the shoreline boasts some of Nicaragua's best sunsets. Playa Gigante, the principal fishing community with a large bay, is only a 15-minute walk north.
