Pongour Waterfall
In Lam Dong Province, the Pongour waterfall appears to be the most well-known. This ecotourism draws millions of people of all ages each year. In addition to its natural beauty, it engages visitors with various activities that highlight the traditions and customs of ethnic communities. The Pongour waterfall can be found in Ninh Gia village, Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province. It is about 20 kilometers from the district's headquarters and 50 kilometers east of Dalat. Gravel walkways wind around lush, beautifully designed gardens on the way to this romantic waterfall.
According to a tale, the Kho tribe, which is currently the site of three communes including Phu Hoi, Tan Hoi, and Tan Thanh, was led many years ago by a stunning woman named Kanai. Particularly with the four large rhinoceroses, Kanai was particularly skilled at subduing hazardous animals. The woman was able to control these animals to fight off enemies and transform the waste ground into fertile soil for farming. Unfortunately, Kanai passed away on the first full moon day of the spring season.
The four rhinoceroses were so depressed that they continued to sit beside Kanai without eating till they passed away. Then, early one morning, locals discovered that the scene of their deaths was a stunning waterfall. According to a legend, Kanai's hair was the water and her rhinoceros horns were rocks preserved in time. They were all put in place to create the beautiful scenery that we can see today.
