Roses are a common ingredient in many perfumes, and rose oil is made by extracting the essence of two types of rose petals, absolutes and ottos. It's a thick and highly concentrated essential oil that can help people with heart problems lower their heart rates while also regulating blood pressure.

Rose essential oil is sometimes used to help with pain relief after surgery, and it has antibacterial and antifungal properties, among other health benefits. Because it is made from rose petals, it is also a popular essential oil for perfumes and other beauty products, and a single pound of rose essential oil requires an estimated four tons of rose petals. This means that a single drop of rose essential oil contains rose flower petals from roughly 30 rose plants, resulting in a highly concentrated scent that lasts a long time. Given the massive amount of petals required to produce such a small amount, it's no surprise that rose essential oil is extremely expensive, costing $800 per ounce.
