São Vicente

São Vicente is a semi-arid island with low-lying mountains. Other islands can be seen on a clear day. Mindelo, Cape Verde's cultural capital, is home to the majority of the island's 80,000 population. Although the city is renowned as the origin of the country's traditional music genres, globalization has resulted in a wide range of music being heard here. The fish market and a replica of Lisbon's iconic Belem tower are among the sights to see in Mindelo. Because of trading with Africa, the town has an African feel. Windsurfers flock to the southwestern island.
