Saurien quarry
Saurien quarry diving (Saurien parking lot 56.914321, 24.346352) is available all year, including in the winter. In the summer, the water does not heat the quarry, which may reach a depth of up to 15 meters in certain areas. The Saurien quarry is one of the few water reservoirs in Riga where visibility in the water may exceed 5 meters or more.
The Saurien quarry lakes are located in Riga district, in the Stopii parish administrative boundaries. It covers a total of 31.0 hectares. The Saurien gypsum quarry, which has been in operation since 1913 and contains multiple reservoirs, is the sole gypsum quarry in the Baltics. Saurien's quarry includes crabs and fish, among other underwater living organisms. A rock wall may be located to the right of the parking lot, till it has to float for about 3-5 minutes and is discovered at a depth of 5 meters.
There is a vehicle crash, and in order to see it, you must always dive to the right. It happens at a depth of 8 meters and after swimming for 25 minutes. According to legend, the quarry contains a tractor as well as the ruins of structures from the ancient island. This is considered one of the Best Diving Sites in Latvia.
