Schwanau Island

Nestled in the canton of Schwyz in central Switzerland, the island of Schwanau is home to a ruined castle, the Burgruine Schwanau, a chapel, and a restaurant. Owned by the canton of Schwyz, the island is nestled within the municipality of Lauerz. Bigger than the two islands in Lake Lauerz, the island is accessible by public passenger ferry from a nearby shoreline. Tailor-made boats and incline lifts are accessible to the terrace, which houses the castle, chapel, and restaurant.

Walking around this secluded paradise is a great way to relax and let your thoughts wander. All history buffs can take a history tour and learn about the island's past. The history of the island surrounds itself with numerous myths and legends. There is a protected nature reserve surrounding Lake Lauerz and Schwanau island. Several insects, reptiles, mammals, birds, and all kinds of plants are found on the island, which is one of the best places to visit in Europe.
