She dealt with drug abuse
In 2010, a drug dealer claimed that he supplied drugs to Angelina Jolie and even said that she was "high on cocaine" while promoting her 2000 film "Girl Interrupted," according to Page Six. The drug dealer, Franklin Meyer said, "She'd taken coke, she did the show and then she came back over after." Meyer also insisted that the actress would often end up spending around $100 on drugs whenever she met him in New York.
According to the Associated Press, Angelina Jolie agreed to drug testing when filming "Tomb Raider" because she wanted to "shed her early reputation." In order to prove that she was deserving of the job, Jolie "would do anything," according to the director Simon West, who provided some backstory. An excerpt from "Angelina Jolie: The Biography" claims that the actress decided to be honest with her admirers and make sure they realized she wasn't perfect. "Wouldn't it be more beneficial for a young girl to be aware of the things I've learned, the mistakes I've made, how human I am, and how similar to her I am?" she questioned.
