She Loves Me
The musical team behind Fiddler on the Roof, Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick, also wrote the score for this delightful and beautifully crafted 1963 romantic comedy, adapted from the same Hungarian play that also inspired the films The Shop Around the Corner and You've Got Mail.
Featuring music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and a book by Joe Masteroff, She Loves Me tells the story of a store clerk and a salesgirl in a Hungarian parfumerie who cannot stand each other, but are unaware that they are conducting an anonymous romantic correspondence. The musical, based on Miklós László’s play Parfumerie, first opened on Broadway at the Eugene O’Neill on April 23, 1963.
Considered by many to be the most charming musical ever written, She Loves Me is a warm romantic comedy with an endearing innocence and a touch of old-world elegance. As the New York Times wrote, "This musical is remarkably generous to all its performers: a half-dozen supporting characters are given show stoppers, too." An ideal Christmas or Valentine's Day show, this heart-warming story will be adored by your entire audience.
