Silicon Motion
SiliconMotion, short for Silicon Motion Technology Corporation, is an American-Taiwanese firm that creates NAND flash controller integrated circuits (ICs) for SSDs. From 2006 to 2016, the firm claims to have supplied more than five billion NAND flash controllers. SSDs, eMMCs, memory cards, and USB flash drives all use them for various consumer, business, and industrial purposes.
By acquiring Shannon Systems, Silicon Motion now offers PCI Express solid-state SSDs to the growing Chinese data center industry. The "SMI" brand is used to market controllers, whereas the "Shannon Systems" brand is used to market enterprise-level solid-state drives. MaxLinear, a US electronics firm, has agreed to acquire Silicon Motion for $3.8 billion in May 2022.
Silicon Motion is worth $2.10 billion as of April 2023. In terms of market capitalization, this places Silicon Motion at number 3673 globally. The latest financial reports reveal that annualized revenue (TTM) for Silicon Motion is $0.94 billion. The company's revenue in 2021 was $0.92 billion, up from the $0.53 billion it made in 2020.
