Ward transplants the road novel into twenty-first-century America, imbuing it with ancestral voices, mythical tropes, and hypnotic lyricism, in this amusingly banal odyssey full of gas station lethargy and dodgy drug deals. Sing, Unburied, Sing is a harrowing and majestic work by a remarkable author.
