Social Impact Strategy: Tools for Entrepreneurs and Innovators
This course provides an overview of social impact strategy and social entrepreneurship, as well as key concepts and tools for getting started as a changemaker. Students will learn how to innovate and design new ideas, as well as new organizational forms to put those ideas into action. Students who take this course will be better prepared to start their own social impact organizations.
Students will turn their passion for changing the world into concrete plans for launching a nonprofit or for-profit venture designed to achieve a social goal by working through four stages: define, design, pilot, and scale. This course will teach students how to think through problems systematically, develop and test innovative solutions, assess risk, competition, and performance, and spread impact in a financially sustainable manner.
Students who complete the course are eligible to apply for the Global Social Impact House, an in-person educational experience. GSIH is a seven-day residential program that gives fellows the tools, community, and training they need to move their ventures forward. Workshops are tailored to fellows' needs and cover advanced concepts in business models, design thinking, and leadership. The program is also intended to assist fellows in developing meaningful global connections while living together in an inspiring host location.
