SS President Coolidge
The SS President Coolidge is a prominent diving destination in Vanuatu that is protected by law and offers divers limitless fun. During the war, this luxury ship was converted and hit a mine. Divers can observe both a luxury cruise liner and a military ship on a single dive due to its dual identities. The wreck is surrounded by coral, and various water species such as sea turtles and moray eels call it home. The SS President Coolidge, which is moored in warm, tropical waters, is a fantastic underwater playground for any diver. This is a fantastic opportunity to dive the world-class SS President Coolidge as a shore dive in the calm Segond Channel with Vanuatu's premier dive outfit. The Coolidge is not only a fantastic wreck dive, but it has also created a massive artificial reef with a vast array of marine life for divers seeking a more diverse marine experience.
Because of the shallow position, easy access off the beach, often excellent visibility, warm seas, and the reasonably intact ship itself, the SS President Coolidge wreck is regarded as one of the most desirable dives in the world. Because of the depths involved, recreational divers can investigate the wreck without using specialized equipment if they exercise caution and take frequent decompression pauses. Divers and snorkelers can explore shipwrecks, as well as beautiful coral reefs and blue holes connected by underground caves, such as Million Dollar Point, where millions of tons of US military excess were dumped into the ocean. Guns, cannons, jeeps, helmets, trucks, and personal goods, as well as a lovely statue of "The Lady" (a porcelain figure of a lady riding a unicorn), chandeliers, and a mosaic tile fountain, have been left by some of the soldiers. The wreck is coral-covered and home to a variety of underwater life, including sea turtles, barracuda, lionfish, and a variety of reef fish.
