Suur Munamägi
Suur Munamägi, which translated to "Great Egg Mountain", is the highest peak in Estonia and the Baltic nations. It rises to a height of 318 meters (1,043 feet) above sea level. It is located near the hamlet of Haanja in Võru County in Estonia's south-eastern region, close to the Latvian and Russian borders. The Haanja Upland, which surrounds the summit, is gently hilly.
On the top of the Suur Munamägi there is an observation tower. The Suur Munamägi Observation Tower offers guests a spectacular 50-kilometer view of the Estonian landscape. The current tower was built in 1939 and rebuilt in 1969. It was refurbished in 2005 and an elevator was constructed into the rear of the tower, giving it a total height of 29.1 meters. Interesting fact: Standing on top of the tower, a person is 346.7 meters above sea level. The first tower was constructed in 1812. Suur Munamägi's height makes it one of Estonia's most prominent national emblems.
