Taquile Island
Taquile is an island on the shores of Lake Titicaca, Peru, 45 kilometers from the city of Puno. The males in the village who knit handicrafts are one of Taquile Island's numerous unique characteristics. In other parts of the world, women are normally assigned to weave the thread, but not on this island. This has been a family custom for decades. As a result of this, Taquile Island has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Staying with a local family, such as Taquile Familia Celso, is one of the most popular types of accommodation on the island. The owners' family will treat you properly and quickly make you feel like a member of the family. They will provide a complimentary breakfast every day, and a shuttle service can be arranged for an additional fee.
