Telluride Ski Resort
Telluride Ski Resort ranks 2nd on the list of the best ski vacations in the USA. Telluride takes one of the top spots thanks to its diverse terrain, excellent on- and off-mountain lodging options, and the charming Telluride ski town at the base of the mountain. You can ski down at the end of the day without having to drive to a nearby town. Telluride is located at the end of a valley in southwest Colorado. This has both advantages and disadvantages. The best part is that there are fewer people and shorter lift lines, but it takes a while to get here and lodging is expensive. It is well worth the effort.
Every year, Telluride receives about 23 feet of snow. You can expect some great powder days if you time it right. This is also an excellent choice for a family ski vacation, with roughly 60% of the terrain geared toward beginner and intermediate skiers and boarders. The resort provides ski-in/ski-out lodging. The gondola is free and accessible to both skiers and non-skiers. Telluride is included in the EPIC pass program. Durango and Purgatory Resort, another fun ski resort in this part of Colorado, are about two hours away. Purgatory provides a more intimate experience that is very family oriented. Prices are also much lower on the mountain and in the hotels.
