The British School of Brussels
Considered one of the top IB schools in Brussels, The British School of Brussels (BSB) started in 1969 and officially opened in 1970. It's in a lovely place with ten hectares, surrounded by woods and lakes near the Royal Museum of Central Africa in Tervuren (a 20-minute drive from central Brussels). The school is for boys and girls, and anyone can join. Students are from 1 to 18 years old, and currently, there are 1,350 students. About 30% are from Britain, and there are kids from more than 70 other countries.
Until 16 years old, students follow a British way of learning, adjusted for European and international students. BSB is notable because it's the only school in Belgium where you can choose from three paths before university: A Levels, the IB Diploma, and English BTEC courses in Sport, Business, and Hospitality. There's also a program where kids learn French and English from ages 4 to 14.
The school's results are excellent. In 2020, all students passed their IB diploma, A levels, and BTEC exams. BSB even got the highest average score for the IB diploma in Belgium and was ranked as the best IB Diploma school.
BSB has fantastic places for Design and Technology, Food & Nutrition, and Music and Drama. In 2016, a new Sports Centre opened with a Swimming Pool, an excellent Gymnasium, a Sports Hall, and a Dance Studio. BSB is the only international school in Belgium with an indoor 25m pool. In 2020, they improved their outdoor football, rugby, athletics, and tennis fields and even put up a climbing wall.
There are lots of things to do outside of regular classes. The arts, like music, drama, and dance, are essential. They have a significant theatre where they put on many shows. The music department has cool things like a music technology room, a recording studio, and a practice room. They also have many sports, like rugby, football, hockey, swimming, tennis, gymnastics, athletics, and basketball. BSB is part of sports competitions and has many extra music and drama activities. Sometimes, students even get to travel overseas for events. BSB is the only international school in Belgium with an indoor 25m swimming pool.
