The Jane

The 14-story landmark, which had been a residential hotel before it was acquired by hoteliers Eric Goode and Sean MacPherson of the Bowery and the Maritime, had been built in 1907 as the American Seaman's Friend Society Sailors Home (some long-term residents remain).

The 50-square-foot, wood-paneled rooms were designed to resemble old railroad sleeper compartments; they have a single bed with built-in storage and brass hooks for hanging clothing, as well as 23-inch flat-screen TVs hung on the wall and iPod docks. There's a legitimate reason why walking inside the Jane hotel seems like you're on a movie set—the lobby was inspired by Barton Fink's Hotel Earle, among other cinematic sources. The "ballroom" conjures an eccentric manor thanks to its eclectic furniture, oriental rugs, and fireplace mantel ornamented with a stuffed ram.

The Whitney Museum of American Art and The High Line Park are both within a quick 10-minute walk of The Jane Hotel, which is 2.4 miles (3.9 kilometers) from the airport. You may get something to eat in the restaurant or unwind with a drink in the bar or lounge at the end of the day. In addition, it just takes 10 minutes to walk to Bleecker Street and Chelsea Market. The friendly personnel and location are highly praised by other travelers.
