The Lodge at Woodloch
This lodge in northeast Pennsylvania, 90 miles from New York City, is a quiet and serene resort with more than 500 wooded acres and a private lake. Excursions include fly-fishing trips and trail biking excursions, though some guests prefer to stay on-site for a river stone massage at the spa. Private verandas and oversized marble bathrooms are standard in all guest rooms. Guests enter the plant-filled Garden Hall through a porte-cochère, which features a 14-foot glass cupola and a balcony overlooking the lake.
To flavor dishes like marinated lamb loin with mushroom risotto, haricots verts, and balsamic reduction, the chef at Tree restaurant uses fresh, local ingredients, including those from the resort's farm-to-table garden. There are 27 treatment rooms in the 40,000-square-foot spa, and the hotel employs not one, but three different forest-bathing instructors.
