The Tale of Nokdu (2019)
The Tale of Nokdu is a South Korean television series that premiered in 2019 and stars Jang Dong-yoon, Kim So-hyun, Kang Tae-oh, and Jung Joon-ho. It is based on Hye Jin-yang's webtoon which was released on Naver Webtoon in 2014. On September 30, 2019, it debuted on KBS2. Kang Tae-oh, in the role of Prince Neungyang / Cha Yool-moo, is the king's nephew who appears to live a modest life. He is well-known for his good looks and culinary skills. He loves Dong-joo since he was betrothed to her before her family's downfall. He organizes a coup and ascends to the throne of Joseon.
Jeon Nok Du (Jang Dong-yoon) lives with his father and elder brother on an island. He is intelligent and a skilled swordsman. His father had forbidden him from studying or traveling to the mainland since he was a child. A trio of female assassins attacks his father and older brother one day. Jeon Nok Du pursues one of the assassins all the way to the capital. Jeon Nok Du meets Dong Dong Ju (Kim So-hyun) during this time. She intends to shoot the King with her arrow, but Jeon Nok Du saves her. Meanwhile, the assassin pursued by Jeon Nok Du enters a widowed village. To find out who and why his family was attacked, Jeon Nok Du disguises himself as a woman and enters the widow's village. There, he meets Dong Dong Ju again. She is an apprentice to become a gisaeng.
