Tombs that amaze you

Stepping inside a tomb may appear eerie, but the tombs of Egypt's pharaohs and nobles are works of art that will leave you speechless. Exploring Egypt's tombs is a must on your Egypt vacation, from the size of the tombs to the carvings and the incredible colors. There are hundreds of tombs, with new ones seemingly discovered every day, though the best ones can be found in the Valleys of the Kings and Queens.

Several of Egypt's largest and most incredible tombs can be found in the Valley of the Kings. While this is still considered a working archaeological site, visitors are permitted to enter some of the tombs; however, the tombs that can be visited rotate to help preserve the tombs. The sheer size and detail of Ramses IV's tombs make it one of the best to visit, though die-hard Egypt enthusiasts will also want to peek into King Tutankhamun's tomb; while not as decorated as the others, you can see his sarcophagus and mummy on display.

The Valley of the Queens is less visited (ideal for those looking to avoid crowds) and contains the tombs of the Pharaoh's wives as well as a few other important figures. The tomb of Nefertari, wife of Rameses II, is the most well-known in the Valley of the Queens, as it is one of the largest and most elaborate in the Valley of the Queens. Please keep in mind that photography is only permitted inside the tombs if you have purchased a photography permit. This can be done as soon as you enter the Valley of the Kings.
