Choi Seung-hyun (born November 4, 1987) is a South Korean rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor better known by his stage name T.O.P. He used to be an underground rapper before signing with YG Entertainment and making his debut as the primary rapper for the boy band Big Bang in 2006. The group went on to become one of Asia's best-selling groups of all time, as well as one of the world's best-selling boy bands.
T.O.P made his acting debut in 2007 with the television series I Am Sam (2007), which was followed by Iris (2009) and the television film Nineteen (2009). He made his feature debut in 71: Into the Fire (2010), for which he gained critical acclaim and won several awards, including Best New Actor at the 2010 Blue Dragon Film Awards and Best Actor at the 2011 Baeksang Arts Awards. Following that, he landed main parts in the films Commitment (2013), for which he received the Busan International Film Festival's New Asian Actor of the Year award, and Tazza: The Hidden Card (2014).
T.O.P has various art world records, including becoming the first K-pop singer to be named to Growse Magazine's list of 200 artists in the art world. T.O.P, his legal name, gave 100 million won to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Association of Daegu, in the province of North Gyeongsang, on March 3, 2020. The monies will be utilized to give personal protection equipment to the area's medical workers and to aid in the fight against COVID-19.
