The Trattoria Il Mulino in Nashville is located in the opulent downtown Hilton. The restaurant is wide and appealing, with the area divided into a cluster of tiny rooms to create an intimate atmosphere. Surprisingly, the environment is mostly determined by your personal preferences. For romantic encounters, there are booths, and for groups, there are semi-private rooms. The restaurant boasts a better-than-average wine list, as evidenced by an imposing wall of wine at the middle. The clean oak tables and stone floor placed customers at ease.

There is something on the menu for everyone. Appetizers include burrata and salumi, as well as ricotta meatballs in tomato sauce. The octopus beginning was delicate and well cooked, served with fingerling potatoes and jewel box tomatoes in a lemon butter sauce. On the more rustic end of the spectrum, there's even a pizza menu (something you won't find at the original New York store).

The restaurant has received a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, and the wine list includes 200 options and a dedicated sommelier. The Old and New Worlds, notably Italy and California, are well represented in the entries. Some of the markups are high, but you're likely to discover something you like sooner or later, much like the meal menu. Starting with the greeting at the entrance, the service is very pleasant. The waitresses are kind, approachable, and willing to assist.
