Under Armor
Under Armor is a well-known brand in the US activewear industry. The company manufactures footwear, sportswear, sports equipment and toiletries.
Under Armor was founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank, a former special team captain for the University of Maryland football team. Plank's goal was to create a new synthetic fabric that would absorb moisture instead of soaking it in standard T-shirts worn under shirts. The brand started in his grandmother's basement.
Under Armor got its first major hit in 1999 when Warner Brothers contacted the company to make two of its feature films - Any Given Sunday and The Replacements. Under Armor continued to grow from there as it landed deals with major sports teams, companies and athletes over the next few decades.
