Understanding Modern Physics I: Relativity and Cosmology Offered By The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
The twentieth century was known as the "Physics Century." Space, time, energy, entropy, and particles have all been studied at a much deeper level in the last 120 years. Relativity and quantum mechanics are examples of new paradigms of thought.
This is the first installment of the Understanding Modern Physics series, which covers special relativity, general relativity, and cosmology. Learners will learn: I How space and time are relative to observers, and how they are unified into a more fundamental construction of spacetime; (ii) Why spacetime is not absolute, but rather curves in response to matter, and how gravity emerges as a result of such spacetime curvature; and (iii) What is the framework for understanding the evolution of the entire universe, and how it is related to issues like the origin of space and matter, and the fate of our universe.
