Venmo is a mobile app that connects your phone to your bank account or debit card, allowing you to pay pals without carrying cash. Venmo allows you to pay classmates using their Venmo accounts and only a phone number or email address. By connecting your phone or Facebook contacts, you may even locate pals automatically.

Venmo is (largely) free, despite its complexity. There are no fees when you transfer money using your Venmo balance, bank account, debit card, or prepaid card. The only time you have to pay is when you use a credit card, in which case Venmo will charge you a usual 3% fee.
