Alternatively, take the train from Virginia City to Nevada City. Charlie Bovey built the Virginia City Short-Range Railroad in 1964 to connect Virginia City with Nevada City, a mile and a half away. Today, a 20-minute train ride on the Virginia City Shortcut is a great way to enjoy the scenery and learn about the surrounding area.
