The castle is dome-shaped, 110 meters high and 50 meters wide, and it is situated on a huge oval rock near Lake Léman. Like many other castles, Chillon's land-facing side has arrowslits, traps and fortresses to defend and observe everything from the outside. Lasting for centuries, the castle has never been ruined by any war or disaster; therefore it still retains its romantic, fairy-tale beauty.
