When the lights of three young rock 'n' roll music pioneers were abruptly turned off in the early morning hours of Tuesday, February 3rd, 1959. The light plane carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and J.P. Richardson "The Big Bopper" crashed shortly after 12:55 a.m., killing all four on board.


The crash happened near Clear Lake, Iowa, about 6 miles from Mason City Municipal Airport.
