Wiesmann
Wiesmann was founded in 1988 in Dülmen, Germany, by brothers Martin and Friedhelm Wiesmann. The goal of the company was to create high-performance sports cars that combined classic design elements with cutting-edge technology and engineering. Wiesmann initially built a small number of cars using BMW engines and transmissions. The company developed its own engines and transmissions over the years, which were used in the production of later models.
Wiesmann's cars were notable for their distinct retro styling, evoking classic sports cars from the 1950s and 1960s. The design philosophy of the company emphasized simplicity, elegance, and functionality, with an emphasis on aerodynamics and performance. Wiesmann automobiles were also noted for their high-quality materials and craftsmanship, with many components handcrafted by skilled artisans.
The MF3 Roadster and the GT MF5 were two of Wiesmann's most famous models. The MF3 Roadster debuted in 1993 and was powered by a BMW M3, while the GT MF5 debuted in 2008 and was powered by a BMW V10. Both models had sleek, aerodynamic bodies and could deliver impressive performance on the road or track. Despite the success of its vehicles, Wiesmann experienced financial difficulties in the early 2010s. The company announced in 2014 that it was going out of business due to a lack of funding. However, a British consortium purchased the Wiesmann brand in 2016 and announced plans to relaunch the company with new models. As of mid-2023, it is unknown whether or not.
