William S. Richardson School of Law
A cooperative, multicultural community, the William S. Richardson School of Law trains students for outstanding careers in the legal profession and other fields that promote justice and the rule of law. It produces highly skilled, morally driven professionals via outstanding teaching, research, and public service. The school acknowledges its unique responsibility to our state and the Pacific region while embracing the diversity and values of Hawaii.
Since 1982, the American Bar Association's Council of the Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar has accredited the University of Hawaii at Mānoa's William S. Richardson School of Law. Since 1989, the institution has belonged to the Association of American Law Schools (AALS).
The William S. Richardson School of Law is dedicated to offering a challenging curriculum that is rich in variety and incorporates both traditional Socratic classroom settings and crucial clinical experience. Students at the Law School have access to a wide range of courses, workshops, and clinics, as well as supervised field and research projects, externships, and actual courtroom experience.
The programs offered by the Law School have been designed to meet the demands and preferences of the state of Hawaii as well as the institution's particular location in the Asia-Pacific area. The clinical programs help students advance their professional abilities and give them the chance to get involved in both local and global issues as well as local communities.
From environmental law and Native Hawaiian law to international law and Pacific-Asian legal studies, the faculty at the William S. Richardson School of Law is internationally renowned as an authority in a wide range of fields and disciplines. They inspire students at Richardson Law School to make enduring contributions in Hawaii, across the US, and around the world, while also preparing them for the challenges of practicing law.
The school provides a Juris Doctor (JD) program that is available full-time and part-time. Foreign law school graduates are drawn to advanced JD (AJD) and Master of Law (LLM) programs, while dual degree programs offer the chance to combine a legal degree with a Master of Business Administration or Master of Social Work degree.
