Wolfgang Joop

Wolfgang Joop is a fashion designer from Germany. He is the founder of the JOOP! fashion and cosmetics company, as well as the Wunderkind fashion brand.

Joop began his career in 1970 when he and his then-wife Karin Benatzky won all three first prizes in a competition sponsored by the German women's magazine Constanze. This accomplishment gained him a job as fashion editor at the Hamburg-based women's magazine Neue Mode in 1970, which he left in 1971 to work freely as a freelance journalist and designer. Joop debuted his first ready-to-wear women's collection in early 1982, followed by his first men's collection in 1985. With the release of his debut perfume line two years later, he made his name a trademark, using capital letters to represent energy and an exclamation mark.
