World Tourism Organisation
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations mandated to promote responsible, sustainable, and universally accessible tourism. Its headquarters are located in Madrid, Spain. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is the leading international organization promoting tourism as a driver of economic growth, inclusive development, and environmental sustainability.
It serves as a global forum for tourism policy and a source of tourism research and knowledge, as well as providing leadership and support in the advancement of knowledge and tourism policies. It promotes the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism Development, Competitiveness, Innovation, and Digital Transformation, Ethics, Culture, and Social Responsibility, Technical Cooperation, the UNWTO Academy, and Statistics.
Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish are the UNWTO's official languages. Prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, tourism was at an all-time high: it supported one out of every ten jobs worldwide, and international tourist arrivals reached 1.5 billion in 2019. In the face of increased uncertainty, the UNWTO dispatched the Global Tourism Crisis Committee to guide the tourism sector as it faced the COVID-19 challenge.
