You Going To Cut Her Meat For Her, Too, There Cal?
Molly Brown (by Kathy Bates) was a character that many viewers admired, even though she faced the disdain of the upper-class who looked down on her for being a self-made woman. She was one of the rare people who showed kindness and respect to Jack, a poor artist who won his ticket to the Titanic in a poker game. She also had a strong personality and a sense of justice, and she was not afraid to confront those who were abusive or oppressive.
This was especially evident in her interactions with Cal, the wealthy fiancé of Rose, who treated her like a possession and tried to control every aspect of her life. Rose's mother, who was more concerned about maintaining their social status than her daughter's happiness, either failed to see or chose to ignore the signs of Rose's distress. Molly, on the other hand, recognized that Rose was unhappy and trapped in a loveless relationship, and she did her best to support her by challenging Cal whenever he crossed a line or tried to manipulate her.
