Aside from fun perks like child-sized robes and slippers, coloring books, and DVDs, the hotel can also provide a variety of baby-proofing materials, bottle warmers, strollers, and baby monitors, among other things. The Peninsula New York ranks 2nd in the list of best family hotels in New York City. While the location of the Peninsula New York is likely what draws many guests, it is the hotel's highbrow, homey touches that keep them there. During a holiday season visit, guests were greeted by festively costumed carolers from atop the grand staircase. The seasonal Peninsula Sweet Shoppe, located adjacent to the check-in desk and open daily from 4 to 6 p.m. for young guests, provides a free candy store where children can mix and match candy jars to create custom personal goody bags. Finally, on their way to the elevators, guests come across a massive gingerbread house replica of the hotel. The Peninsula New York is heaven on Earth if the devil is in the details.

Climb the escalator to find a bounty of goodies. Stop by one of the 235 guestrooms, which range in size from 400 square feet to 3,000 square feet. Each room has an electronic system of control panels designed specifically for the hotel, allowing visitors to easily and efficiently control their environment. The wall-mounted panel, for example, controls the temperature; the bedside panel, the television, the air conditioner, and whether you want privacy or your room cleaned; and the bathroom panel, which controls lighting (including sexy mood lighting) and the wall-inset television directly over the bathtub.

To reach the spa and fitness center, take the elevator to the 21st floor. The spa's modern design, complete with wooden accents and earth-tone colors, evokes a luxurious nature haven, transporting guests away from the city's often-overwhelming bustle. Slink even deeper into Zen mode by indulging in a spa treatment, such as an aromatherapy massage or a Himalayan crystal salt scrub. The spa also provides hair and makeup services. The fitness center and pool area are accessible via a short flight of stairs. The fitness center has machines for every type of workout, many of which have personal televisions and weights. The facility also offers a variety of group fitness classes, like barre, yoga and spinning, that are free for hotel guests. After working out, relax by crossing the hallway to the beautiful glass-enclosed pool room that offers sweeping views of Midtown.

The Ritz-Carlton Central Park is one of those New York hotels that makes you feel like you've stepped into a scene from a storybook. This is not a hotel you want to rush through just to get to your room. From the moment two men in top hats open the door and guide you to the lobby, you want to savor and experience it. You're immediately surrounded by warm wood and cool marble, creating an enveloping experience that feels worlds away from the drab concrete sidewalk you just left.

The service is friendly and courteous, but the common areas have a formal air to them. The Star Lounge, located on the first floor just off the lobby, is the main gathering place. Guests and locals alike mingle on the luxurious green and beige furniture while sipping cocktails from legendary bartender Norman Bukofzer. Those who want to visit the bar, which is just around the corner from the lounge, should order The Central Park Cocktail. The Ramble inspired the hotel's signature drink, which is as light and refreshing as a stroll through The Ramble.

The décor in the room is understated and comfortable, much lighter than in the downstairs lounge. Nightly turndown service is provided, and a full in-room dining menu is available 24 hours a day (The club sandwich on toasted sourdough is a must-try). But, let's be honest, the best feature of these rooms are the spectacular views of Central Park. Looking out over the iconic city landmark from just across the street provides a completely different perspective on the sprawling green space, and some rooms even have telescopes to help you examine it more closely.

If you can afford it, a night of luxury in this reinvented Madison Avenue gem is one of the most renowned hotels in the tri-state area. This historic hotel, built in what was formerly known as the Villard Mansion, exudes the pinnacle of New York society. Guests are surrounded by traditional elegance of decor reminiscent of the early 1900s as they walk to the front doors of this grand hotel and through the picturesque courtyard. As you walk silently across the marble lobby to check in and make your way to your hotel room, you are greeted by lush carpets and gold filigree fixtures.

While the bones of the hotel are from the past, all of the rooms are from the future. When guests walk into their room, they are greeted with classical music and a personalized greeting scrolling on the flat screen television. The walls of the spacious room are lined with marble countertops and walnut furnishings, with views of the city skyline (note: if you stay during the holiday season you have a spectacular view of the Rockefeller Christmas Tree). When you find the time to sink into your luxurious hotel bed, you might never want to leave. A control panel installed on the bedside table has been installed in each of the rooms. Guests can control the room temperature, lights, curtains, television, and the 'Do Not Disturb' setting all from the comfort of their bed. Talk about living life to the fullest.

If you do decide to leave your room, whether for a meal or to see the sights, the Villard restaurant should be your first stop. The food is almost as good as the setting, which is part of the original Villard mansion. With genuine works of art adorning the walls and ceiling, one would think they were dining in the Louvre. If you have the opportunity to dine at the Villard for breakfast, order the classic American breakfast of eggs benedict for the table, a simple meal to complement the lavishness of the Villard. If you're looking for a pre-dinner drink, check out Rarities, an exclusive 25-seat salon off the lobby that is strictly reserved for hotel guests.

When it comes to the perfect apartment, every New Yorker fantasizes about two things: rent control and perfect views. The perfect views are delivered to the letter by Ink48, a Kimpton Hotel. Views to die for are available on the outskirts of Hell's Kitchen, right on the Hudson River waterfront. The Kimpton Hotel(s) chain is famous for coining the phrase "boutique hotel." Personalization and getting to know each of their guests, they believe, is the key to creating a memorable stay. Ink48, in particular, takes pride in catering to the "bleisure" crowd (business + leisure). Rooms and conference spaces have recently been renovated, making it easier to connect and socialize.

Guest rooms have been designed to look like a New York runway apartment, with large windows that allow you to enjoy views of Midtown Manhattan from the comfort of your King size bed (which you will be melting into). The rooms have a simple elegance to them. The rooms are distinguished by white washed walls and earthy tones with pops of color. When you feel the urge to leave your room, go to Ink48's restaurant PRINT. This farm-to-table restaurant serves delectable bites that will leave you hungry for more. Start with the grilled quail (with fig truffle sauce and sauteed romaine), then move on to the red snapper for your main course dessert.

Ink 48 has the characteristics of style, sophistication and elegance that are a must for a Hell’s Kitchen hotel. But what really makes this hotel a cut above the rest is their care for their client’s; they make sure that while you are at Ink48, whether it’s for a night or a 2 week vacation, you are part of the Ink48 experience and family.

Le Parker Meridien ranks 6th in the list of best family hotels in New York City. Check into Le Parker Meridien New York for a roof over your head and a pillow under your neck, but stay—as in, never leave the main hotel—for all of the unique facilities within. The guest rooms are exquisitely beautiful. Many rooms in the hotel's sky-high tower overlook Central Park, a view that will take your breath away and make all your Instagram followers jealous (Le Parker Meridien provides guests with free Wi-Fi). But once you've finished staring out your window, take a bath, turn off your 46-inch flatscreen TV, and go explore the rest of the hotel's amenities.

A single, easy-to-miss neon burger sign is cheekily half-hidden behind a floor-to-ceiling curtain adjacent to the concierge counter. Approach the sign and turn a corner to exit the swank and modern Le Parker Meridien lobby and enter a wood-paneled dive from yesteryear: the Burger Joint, which serves classic burger-joint fare (single or double cheeseburgers with "the works" of toppings, fries, shakes, beer, wine). Nave, the bar near the hotel's north entrance with high ceilings, red-velvet curtains, and candles that give it a moody feel, is ideal for nighttime cocktails or a morning latte. And if you don't have brunch at the iconic Norma's after that latte in the morning, you've made a grave mistake.

Head to the covered rooftop pool, which also has an outdoor sundeck, for more spectacular views, this time from floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the park. While day passes for the pool and underground gym are available for purchase, hotel guests are admitted free of charge. Gravity Fitness offers not only a comprehensive range of machines and free weights, but also personal training sessions and a variety of free daily group workout classes. There are also saunas and steam rooms in both the men's and women's locker rooms.

The first thing that strikes you as you approach the Hotel Gansevoort Meatpacking District is its location: right in the heart of the MePa. The hotel is the centerpiece of the neighborhood, the timeless dame of an ever-changing and evolving nabe, having opened its doors in 2004 when the area began to become the chic destination for city partygoers that it is today. The lobby has a sleek design (to be honest, everything about a Gansevoort property screams sleek), with floor-to-ceiling leather ropes that create a canopy, red suede and black leather chairs, and a pool table in the middle of the seating area—the perfect scene for a hotel you'd expect to be busy.

The minimal and modern décor in the rooms, like on Park Avenue South, is offset by the colorful and vibrant photographs and paintings on the walls. The Plunge Rooftop Bar + Lounge, where you will find the 45-foot heated outdoor pool open year-round, is the hotel's main focus—and by focus, I mean the part of the hotel that is a must-see for any visitor. The indoor loft has 20-foot ceilings and 360-degree views of the city, making it ideal for a nightcap and a dip in the pool. The ground floor is home to Chester, an American restaurant with al fresco dining where you can people watch all day and night. With a valet service, fully-equipped gym, pet program, and even a Prieto Select hair studio and Exhale Spa on-site, you may not need to leave the hotel.

The Hotel Gansevoort Meatpacking is situated on the cobblestone corner of Ninth Avenue and 13th Street, just a few blocks from the West Side Highway and a short walk from the A, C, E, and L subway lines at 14th Street and Eighth Avenue. Because the MePa is small, you can take a leisurely scenic stroll to the neighboring neighborhoods of Chelsea and the West Village.

TRYP is only a few minutes' walk from all of the city's top attractions, including Macy's Herald Square, the Jacob Javits Convention Center, the Empire State Building, and Madison Square Garden. This 173-room, 4-star hotel features a restaurant and bar, as well as amenities such as free in-room WiFi, a fitness center, and discounted parking. TRYP Hotel NYC-Times Square South is well-known for its family rooms, which can sleep up to eight people.

The urban retreat is Wyndham's first Tryp outpost in the United States, and it pays homage to the hotel chain's Spanish roots with an excellent tapas restaurant and Mediterranean-inspired minimalistic décor. The true litmus test for determining whether a New York hotel is cool? Whether or not actual New Yorkers want to visit! That test is easily passed by the Roxy. It's more than just a place to stay in Tribeca—one that manages to be swanky without being pretentious or intimidating. At any given time, there are genuine New Yorkers hanging out in the lobby (or at least chic tourists who pass for them). Speaking of chic, super-stylish celebs with rock-star cred frequent The Roxy; Haim, the 2016 Costume Institute Gala's fashion darlings, hung their hat at The Roxy after spending all night with their bestie Taylor Swift.

The interior of the hotel has one of those perimeter balcony setups that are more reminiscent of a convention-center Marriott than a downtown boutique hotel, but the Roxy lives up to its Tribeca Grand roots: The lounge is dotted with comfortable eclectic couches, and a pool table sits invitingly off to the side. Everything is brown, gold, and white—nothing shouts, everything soothes. Most importantly, when you retire to your room and collapse into one of the most comfortable beds you've ever slept in, the windows and doors are amazingly soundproof, which is critical given the all-night hustle and bustle on the street and downstairs in the hotel.

Concerning the commotion: The entertainment is the main draw of this location. Skip the hotel restaurant (you can eat better elsewhere in the nabe, such as Odeon or Locanda Verde), but make sure to enjoy all of the real-deal entertainment the place has to offer: During your stay, the Late Show's Eddie Barbash was in the Roxy Lounge with his band, and Cuban music was playing downstairs at the speakeasy-style Django.
