  1. The Rijksmuseum, located on Amsterdam's Museumplein, features one of the world's most significant art collections. Some of the most famous paintings from the Dutch Golden Age's Old Masters may be found here. Vermeer's The Milkmaid, Rembrandt's Night Watch, and Van Gogh's Self-portrait are among them. The massive 30,000-square-meter museum also has over 8,000 artifacts distributed across four floors. Sculptures, glass, Delftware, furniture, textiles, and archaeological items going back 800 years are among them. Needless to say, there is more than enough to keep you busy during your vacation.

The Rijksmuseum was created in The Hague on November 19, 1798, and relocated to Amsterdam in 1808, first in the Royal Palace and then in the Trippenhuis. Pierre Cuypers designed the current main structure, which opened in 1885. Queen Beatrix inaugurated the main building on April 13, 2013, following a ten-year refurbishment costing €375 million. It was the most visited museum in the Netherlands in 2013 and 2014, with 2.2 million and 2.47 million visitors, respectively. It is also the country's largest art museum.

  2. The Van Gogh Museum, also on Museumplein, is a must-see for anybody interested in Dutch art. The majority of Van Gogh's oeuvre is on exhibit here, including 200 of his paintings and 500 of his sketches. Sunflowers, Almond Blossom, and The Potato Eaters are among his most recognized works, as are several of his early self-portraits. The permanent collection of the museum also includes significant works by Van Gogh's contemporaries from the nineteenth century, particularly Gauguin, Toulouse-Lautrec, and Monet. Depending on when you go, you might be able to see a temporary exhibition focusing on the same time period. Your Loving Vincent is one such display that allows visitors to examine the artist's greatest letters alongside his masterpieces.

The museum houses the world's biggest collection of Van Gogh's paintings and sketches. In 2017, the museum attracted 2.3 million visitors, making it the most visited museum in the Netherlands and the world's 23rd most visited art museum. The Meet Vincent Van Gogh Experience, a technology-driven "immersive exhibition" on Van Gogh's life and works, debuted in 2019 at the Van Gogh Museum and has since toured internationally.

  3. The Frans Hals Museum, located in the picturesque historic city of Haarlem, houses the most famous 17th-century works by the renowned Dutch Golden Age painter, Frans Hals. The famous artist specialized in painting individuals, ranging from rich Haarlem residents to less noteworthy figures such as the town fool and laughing fisherman. Visitors to the museum may see some of his most renowned paintings from the Golden Age alongside modern art installations, giving them a completely new perspective. The museum is divided into two sections, Hof and Hal, which are both within a short walking distance of each other, allowing visitors to meander through Haarlem's attractive historic town.

Since it first opened its doors in Groot Heiligland in 1913, the Frans Hals Museum has grown in popularity and curiosity. The museum's collection of Haarlem Old Masters of the Golden Age is unparalleled, including the world's biggest collection of Frans Hals paintings. Painting experienced a profound transition in the early seventeenth century, and the roots for this were built in Haarlem. Because this shift eventually established the style and grandeur of the Golden Age, Haarlem is rightfully considered its origin.

  8. Many individuals see the abstract and post-modernist Groninger Museum as a piece of art in its own right. Aside from its humorous appearance, the building houses a large collection of art, fashion, photography, and design. There are three primary pavilions: a silver cylinder building built by Philippe Starck, a yellow tower created by Alessandro Mendini, and a pale blue deconstructivist space designed by Coop Himmelbau. The permanent display at the museum has a world-renowned collection of Chinese and Japanese porcelain as well as paintings by the local Groningen artist group, De Ploeg. Meanwhile, its temporary exhibitions have previously paid tribute to David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Nordic art, and Cuban art. The museum receives over 200,000 visitors every year, making it the most popular in Groningen.

The Groninger Museum was founded in 1874 and moved to its current location on the Praediniussingel twenty years later, in 1894. The heirs of the Menkemaborg's last residents bequeathed the historic home to the Groninger Museum in 1921. The museum's present structure was completed in 1994.
