  5. Tan Lac Vien is a perfect spot for an extremely cold winter day. Authentic Vietnamese food and great service in an intimate setting. The atmosphere is very lovely and polite. The menu here is manageable unlike the often very long and daunting menus of so many Asian restaurants.

The renowned pho and bun meals are available at this Vietnamese eatery. There is a part of the menu dedicated to com tam ("broken rice") dishes, some of which are topped with a fried egg. There is also a jellyfish salad with pickled carrot and daikon. Banh xeo, delicious crepes packed with shrimp, sautéed pork, and vegetables, is another delectable option, as is the make-your-own summer roll option. There is eight pho on the menu, as well as eight soups made with pork and chicken stock. It serves the Pho Special, which consists of rare beef, flank, tendon, tripe, and meatball. The rare meat is superb, providing a flavorful counterpoint to the jalapenos quality punch. There are also crispy pork rolls and crispy dumplings. The cracking sounds as one bites into them all shout freshness. Perfectly seasoned ground pork wrap. Crackling dumplings, thin dough, and excellent filling, none of that soggy sticky dough so often served by others.
