    National Bank of Greece

    The National Bank of Greece (NBG) is a multinational banking and financial services corporation headquartered in Athens, Greece. Regarding total assets, the National Bank of Greece is Greece's second-largest bank. Its total assets in 2021 were 78 520,00 million EUR. The bank's net income in 2021 was 729,00 million EUR.

    The company's operations in Greece generate 85% of its pretax pre-provision profits, with 15% coming from Southeastern Europe.     In 1841, financiers Jean-Gabriel Eynard and Georgios Stavros established NBG as a commercial bank. Stavros was also elected as the Bank's first director until his death in 1869. NBG had the right to print banknotes from its founding until the establishment of the Bank of Greece in 1928. When the Athens Stock Exchange was established in 1880, NBG was the first company to list on the exchange, a position it has held to this day.

    The bank is currently traded on the Athens Exchange (Athex: ETE, ISIN GRS003003019) and is part of the FTSE/Athex Large Cap index. It was traded on the New York Stock Exchange from 1999 to 2015 (NYSE: NBG, ADR, ISIN US6336437057).
