Rebecca's Cave is one of the most beautiful caves on the Cayman Islands. The cave is arguably the most popular cave on Brac. It is named after Rebecca, a little girl who fled the hurricane with her family in 1932. The two-year-old child died by accident in the cave and is also buried there.
The storm of 1932 is a tragic episode in Cayman's history. The devastation was massive. People hid in the various caves on the islands, one of which was Bat Hole. After two days, after the storm had settled down, people went out to see the damage, and the storm returned from the west. The storm caught the folks off guard since they had not anticipated it.
A group of individuals fought their way through the darkness and the waves to reach the safety of the cave. Rebecca was just 17 months old at the time, and she was being carried by her mother. Rebecca was passed to other people since she was too tiny to carry her over the rocks. When the mother was hit by a wave, she lost the baby and drifted away, but she was saved by one of the other members of the group.
