  1. The Livingstone–Stanley Monument, also known as La Pierre de Livingstone et Stanley, is a modest memorial overlooking Lake Tanganyika in the Republic of Burundi's western region.

The monument, which is located on the bank of the Mugere River, just south of the capital Bujumbura, commemorates the visit of explorer and missionary Dr. David Livingstone and writer and adventurer Henry Morton Stanley, who spent two nights here.

Both of them stayed there between November 25 and November 27, 1871, despite the fact that some Burundians believe here is where the two explorers first met on their route to locate the source of the Nile. The memorial itself is a large stone with their surnames and dates engraved on it.

Visitors to the Livingstone–Stanley Monument may not be wowed by the stone itself, but with the cleanliness of the location and the stunning scenery views of the lake, it is a spot worth spending time.

  2. The Monument of National Unity is one of the most beautiful historical sites in Burundian. It is one attempt to bring Burundians together. Indeed, identity conflicts in Burundi have resulted in homicides between the two main socioeconomic components (Hutu and Tutsi). National reconciliation solutions have been presented.

This monument, built atop Mount Vugizo in the heights of Bujumbura, Burundi's city, is made up of modest walls connected by a rope with the words: Dusenyere Ku Mugozi Umwe, which means "let us assemble under a single string." The date of the national unity pact's signing is also etched there: 5/02/1992.

Alleys have been created to allow tourists to move freely. A military presence is also present to protect visitors who visit this location.

As soon as guests enter the monument, either a military or a civilian greets them with a smile and informs them of the requirements for visiting this area, and the genuine method of payment.

Visiting the Monument of National Unity allows you to observe the entire city of Bujumbura and northern Lake Tanganyika from above. I guarantee you that everything is OK.

  3. Burundi's national museum is the National Museum of Gitega. It was formed in 1955 under Belgian colonial control in Gitega. Although its collection is presented in a single room, it is the largest of Burundi's public museums. It had 20–50 visits per week on average in 2014.

The museum was founded in 1955 by the Belgian rulers of Burundi with the intention of preserving artifacts from Burundian traditional culture that were diminishing as a result of modernity and social change. It is also one of the most beautiful historical sites in Burundi. The collection of the museum comprises ethnographic and historical relics from the nation, as well as artifacts from the court of the Burundian monarchs. Due to a paucity of money, the museum has made few recent purchases.

With the assistance of the German Embassy in Burundi, a catalogue of the museum's collection titled Le Patrimoine Burundais: le Musée de Gitega was produced in 2015.
