2020 Model 3
Tesla has revolutionized the electric-car world on its own, and the Model 3 is the cheapest way to acquire one of the company's technological marvels in your driveway. The Model 3, a four-door sedan of the same size as the BMW 3-series, has rapid acceleration and a futuristic, minimalist interior. There are several battery configurations to choose from, and all models are rated to travel more than 200 miles on a single charge; the Long Range model claims a range of 322 miles. The Performance model accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds in our testing. While the Model 3 is the cheapest Tesla you can buy, the $36,200 Standard Range model is available only by special order at physical Tesla stores; the least expensive version available to order online is the $39,190 Standard Range Plus.
Tesla regularly updates its vehicles with over-the-air software updates and, on rare occasions, new mechanical components, but the firm does not release updates on a model-year basis. As a result, they can't say what upgrades the Model 3 will get in the next months, and Tesla won't say anything about what the future contains in terms of updates. The Model 3 has recently received new features such as lane-keep assist and standard Autopilot functionality (the company's term for its autonomous-driving feature), as well as enhanced V3 Supercharger network charging.
The Model 3 accelerates easily and nearly silently, as do other EVs, with the electric motor generating significant power from a stop. They tried the rear-wheel-drive Long Range variant, which went from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. The Model 3 Performance accelerates to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, which is 0.4 second faster than the Model S 100D, which is larger and more expensive. The Model 3's battery is carried under the floor, as is the case with other Teslas, resulting in a low center of gravity. This allows it to turn sharply and feel grounded and sturdy in corners. The steering is precise and well-balanced, with three distinct levels of steering effort to choose from. The ride is firm without being harsh; without the noise of a gas-powered engine, however, you do hear plenty of noise inside the cabin as the tires thwack and thrum over pavement imperfections.
