Amsterdam

The most liberal city in the world and maybe in Europe is Amsterdam. In terms of acceptability, decriminalizing homosexuality in 1811 was well ahead of its time. In 2002, same-sex marriage became permissible. Amsterdam has LGBT memorials to remind people of the past intolerance and prejudice, much like Berlin has done (such as the Homomonument, the first such memorial in the world, inaugurated in 1987). Amsterdam's events, attractions, pubs, restaurants, and open-minded residents have all contributed to the city's status as a homosexual holy land. This metropolis shouts out for the entire world to hear how liberal and accepting it is.

The Netherlands, which is renowned for its tolerance, was the first nation in the world to legalize homosexual marriage in 2001. They have a society that values diversity, therefore during Pride Week there are more parties than protests. The homosexual scene in Amsterdam is mostly centered on the several gay pubs on the Reguliersdwarsstraat, but the city also hosts a number of entertaining events on Wednesdays at the Amstel Fifty Four, which hosts the drinks night of the student group A.S.V. Gay.

When it comes to lodging, Amsterdam offers a variety of gay-friendly hotels.
