Andy Lau spent his childhood years in Hong Kong, during the period when that part of the world was still under British rule. Due to a string of unexplained occurrences, his family was compelled to resettle in the slums of Hong Kong when he was only six years old, despite the fact that he came from a wealthy family.

Around the same time that he began to achieve some measure of success as an actor early on in his career, Lau shifted his focus to a career in the music industry.
