Animoog
The "first professional synthesizer created for the iPad," according to Moog, is the new Animoog. That's the same text, copied and pasted from the company's press release and a Facebook post sent out only last night. The fundamental character of the original gadgets is mostly preserved. Animoog has a richness to it that we associate with the Moog brand. There's no need to make a big deal out of it. It won't drive down the price of Model Ds on the secondary market, but it does give iPad owners a taste of the iconic Moog sound, if not the full experience. Any well-sampled collection of Moog noises could have done the same thing, though.
Sounds may be triggered through MIDI (surprise, Animoog responds to polyphonic aftertouch modulation) via the built-in touch-plate controller (which looks curiously Buchla-like). The position of the player's finger on the vertical plane may be utilized to alter the timbre, just like some other iPad instruments we've seen. There are pitch and mod sliders, as well as a variety of scales to pick from.
