GarageBand
Although it still lacks a few key features (such as MIDI export and the ability to control external hardware via MIDI), Apple's long-standing digital audio workstation has come a long way since we first saw it in 2004, and while it still lacks a few key features (such as MIDI export and the ability to control external hardware via MIDI), GarageBand offers more than enough to get you started. Apple has done an excellent job of developing the ideal entry point into music creation, with a clear route to Logic Pro (Apple's full-featured professional DAW).
Drummer, a very easy-to-use groove-maker with different genre styles, simple controls, and a ton of pattern and fill variants, is one of the shared features. You'll also hear sounds from Apple's Loops sound collection. There's also a familiar Logic interface to help with the transition. GarageBand is a powerful and easy-to-use DAW that appears to be growing better with age, despite its restriction of 255 tracks per song.
