Aperam

Aperam is a multinational company with headquarters in Luxembourg, specializing in the production of stainless steel and specialty steel. The company was spun out of ArcelorMittal in 2011, and its facilities in Brazil, Belgium, and France account for 27% of the global stainless-steel market by turnover as of 2009. The company is listed on several stock exchanges, including Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris, Madrid, and Luxembourg.

Aperam's Brazilian facility is unique in that it uses charcoal from eucalyptus forests to reduce material, rather than coking coal, reducing the facility's carbon footprint. In contrast, its European facilities use electric-arc furnaces fed with scrap.

The company has a rich history, with its Brazilian facilities largely stemming from Aperam South America, which was privatized by the Brazilian government in 1992 and purchased by Usinor in 1998. After a series of mergers, Aperam became a wholly-owned subsidiary of ArcelorMittal in 2007.

Aperam has six production facilities located in Brazil, Belgium, and France, with a highly integrated distribution, processing, and services network. It has a total capacity of 2.5 million tonnes of flat stainless and electrical steel. Aperam is present in 40 countries and is known for having an industry-leading carbon footprint of 0.32 tons of CO2 per ton of slabs produced. As of June 2021, the Lakshmi Mittal family owns 40.83% of Aperam.
