Ardagh Group
Ardagh Group is a global producer of glass and metal packaging products, with its headquarters based in Luxembourg. The company has experienced significant growth in the last two decades and is now one of the largest metal and glass packaging companies worldwide. As of 2012, Ardagh Group operated in 22 countries with 89 facilities and had a revenue of €7.7 billion, with approximately 23,500 employees.
Founded in Dublin, Ireland, in 1932 as the Irish Glass Bottle Company, the company has undergone numerous acquisitions to expand its business. In 1998, Paul Coulson acquired an initial stake in the company and initiated a series of acquisitions that included the purchase of Rockware Glass in 1999 and the Impress Group for €1.7 billion and Fi Par for €125 million in 2011.
Ardagh Group has a strong presence in North America, where it operates two of the oldest continuously operated glass container plants in the country, including Dunkirk and Winchester, both established in the late 1800s. In 2012, the company acquired Anchor Glass Container Corporation for $880 million, followed by the purchase of the Rexam Glass Division and St-Gobain's Verallia North America for €1.3 billion in 2013.
The company launched an IPO in March 2017, raising over $300 million on the New York Stock Exchange. In 2022, Ardagh Group acquired Consol Glass, a major African glass packaging company, and renamed it Ardagh Glass Packaging – Africa (AGP – A). Today, Ardagh Group continues to be a significant player in the global metal and glass packaging industry, offering a wide range of innovative and sustainable solutions to customers across the world.
