All statements made during official proceedings are recorded using a steno machine by a court reporter. With this machine, the reporter can record combinations of letters that represent words, sounds, or phrases by pressing multiple keys at once. Software for computer-aided transcription is then used to translate the words into English.
A handheld stenomask recording device is used by a voice writing reporter to record their speech. The reporter can identify speakers, add punctuation, repeat everything, and provide readback.
